There are a few rule updates I think we should make.

The first suggestion would be to lower the trade veto window to one day

I've been waiting 2.5 fucking days on Hamster to approve or reject an offer I made him. It's pretty infuriating, really.

For next year, I'd move that we accept Kell's suggestion(s), and correspondingly make the required votes required veto -1.

The second suggestion would be to iron out the points per yard discrepancy between RB's and WR's.

TJ2000 wrote:With the way our scoring is set up, its easy to corner the market on valuable free agents. Quarterbacks are high producing players in our league, mainly due to 6pt td passes. Its just not valuable to "hoard" qb's when you can only play 1 per game, and generally any qb will do.

Its not valuable to "hoard" wide receivers in our league either; they don't earn as many points as a running back, and there are more wr's to go around. If you pick up 5 wr's on your bench in hopes of dominating the market, you're probably not going to end up on top.

Points-wise, a single running back can be worth 2 wide receivers. Its much easier to predict rushing touchdowns than pass touchdowns when looking at an upcoming game. Also, running backs accumulate yardage points at a faster rate than receivers in our league. This leads to the hoarding of running backs being a valuable strategy, one that Paul picked up on early, much to the chagrin of most of the other owners.

I can think of two strategies to follow in order to prevent this from happening in the future. The first is to even out the point system. I don't want to get into specifics, as we can iron out the details later, but yardage points should either be the same for RB's and WR's, or the WR should get a point for fewer yards than the RB. That would make RB's less valuable and less of an exclusive trade commodity.

The other suggestion I have, and I don't know if this is possible on Yahoo, would be to have roster moves on Sundays and Mondays protected by the waiver system. It really sucks when your star running back goes down and you can't even pick up his backup because you're out of town that weekend and someone beat you to him. That would eliminate people getting pissed off at each other for waking up early on Monday morning to grab players.

All in all, I don't see anything that Paul did as being "wrong" or "shady". He played within the confines of the rules, and paid attention to details that mattered. If you guys cared that much, you would have woken your asses up at 4am or whatever to beat him to the punch. I, however, had more important things on my plate (like sleep)

Suggestion 3 would be to devalue QB touchdowns, maybe dropping it down to 4 per TD pass like most other leagues.

My final suggestion would be to lump defense and special teams back together, as it adds a bit of strategy to your defensive choice for the week, as well as increasing the quantity of serviceable D's on the market.

Thoughts?

I sent you an invite anyway, just in case you change your mind (I think we'd all like to have you back, despite last year's drama).

That sounds good to me.

Thoughts?

I spent some time going over the numbers for the WR/RB/QBs, and think a scoring system closer to Yahoo! default would be the best course of action. The proposed settings:

Passing Yards, 25 yards per point
Passing Touchdowns, 4
Interceptions, -1
Rushing Yards, 10 yards per point
Rushing Touchdowns, 6
Receptions, .20
Reception Yards, 10 yards per point
Reception Touchdowns, 6
Return Touchdowns, 6
2-Point Conversions, 2
Fumbles Lost, -2
Offensive Fumble Return TD, 6

This one kind of worries me a bit. Including extra special teams (ST) stats (e.g. yards, TDs) would overly-reward good defenses, many of which already regularly score 10+ points. Given that the feedback so far has been to reduce the relative impact of the QB, the added weight of the defense (which is often just a roll of the dice) could/would introduce a lot more randomness into matchups, which would be pretty frustrating I think.

Also, I've added an IR spot, what do people think? (I'm not sold on it, but am open to discussion).
